Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Case Transferred to New Judge

Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, has reassigned the legal case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a different judge.
This update was shared by Kanu’s primary counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a statement on Saturday.
Ejimakor emphasized that Kanu is prepared to face his trial, as he is firmly convinced of his innocence.
In the statement, Ejimakor explained: “Prior to our regular visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu yesterday, we received two significant official letters concerning his case. These letters are both crucial and somewhat bittersweet.
“One letter was from the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, responding to our recent communication seeking her prompt intervention in the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, particularly regarding the lawful reassignment of his case after the previous judge’s recusal.
“The second letter came from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, notifying us that the case had been reassigned to another judge within the same court.”
With these new developments, Kanu instructed his legal team to publicly express his heartfelt thanks to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for her prompt administrative action and for addressing the request with efficiency.
He also extended his sincere gratitude to the public for their support in advocating for the reassignment of his case, in line with legal procedures.
Kanu has always been ready to face trial, as he remains confident in his innocence. However, the events over the last six months, particularly since the judge’s recusal in September 2024, raised significant concerns regarding his constitutional rights, especially his right to a fair and timely trial.
These issues prompted his legal team to pursue extraordinary steps to ensure the case was reassigned and handled according to the law.
With the initial steps now taken by the authorities, Kanu and his legal team are preparing diligently for the
defense of his case.
