Obasa Claims Meranda Resigned as Speaker During Peace Meeting
Mudashiru Obasa, the removed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has alleged that Mojisola Meranda, the current Speaker, stepped down from her position during a peace meeting.
Obasa made this statement on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
He explained that Meranda had announced her resignation at a peace meeting held last weekend at the Lagos House in Marina, which was attended by all party leaders.
He said, “During the meeting at Marina, which included the presence of all key party figures, it was clearly stated, with the expectation that all members were there, that Meranda herself confirmed her resignation. She publicly declared that she had stepped down.”
Obasa went on to suggest that when a resignation occurs, the official duties and privileges associated with the role are relinquished. He raised the question of whether Meranda’s resignation was genuine and said, “If she has indeed resigned, then the question arises: Have you also stepped down? We understand that part of the agreement was for you to resign as well. Let them provide the resignation letter. If I were to resign, would I still be here? Even though we’ve never spoken, I believe you’d still address me As speaker.”
