Ohanaeze Ndigbo Criticize Amaechi’s ‘Reckless’ Comments, Warns Him Against Threats to Democracy

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has condemned remarks made by former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, criticizing President Bola Tinubu, calling his comments reckless and dangerous. Amaechi, who previously served as Minister of Transport, had called for the use of “brutal force” to take power in 2027, which Ohanaeze Ndigbo deemed a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expressed concern over Amaechi’s inflammatory rhetoric, emphasizing that the Igbo community would never support any efforts to destabilize an elected government. “Amaechi’s call for violence and force to seize power is a clear violation of the values of democracy, civility, and peace that we uphold,” said Isiguzoro.
He also criticized Amaechi’s remarks suggesting politicians must be prepared to engage in theft and violence to maintain power, warning that such statements undermine national unity and pose a threat to the country’s stability.
“We strongly condemn the reckless and provocative statements made by Amaechi against President Tinubu,” the organization stated. “The Ndigbo will never back any political plot to delegitimize an elected leader.”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also expressed support for Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, who had urged Amaechi to stop inciting the public with his comments. “We join Matawalle in calling on Amaechi to retract his divisive statements and halt any further attempts to provoke unrest,” Isiguzoro added.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to President Tinubu, pledging to continue advocating for peace, stability, and good governance in Nigeria.
