Ondo Lawmaker Olanrewaju Akingbaso Leaves PDP for APC

Olanrewaju Akingbaso, the representative for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in Ondo State, has officially switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Wednesday, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced Akingbaso’s defection on the floor of the House of Representatives. The lawmaker cited ongoing internal disputes within the PDP and expressed his wish to support President Bola Tinubu’s development initiatives as reasons for his move.
Nonetheless, the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, opposed the announcement, stating that the defection was a personal choice and not reflective of the will of Akingbaso’s constituents. Chinda called on the House to apply Section 68 (1g) of the Nigerian Constitution, which the Speaker resisted.
