Osimhen Eyes Swift Comeback After Successful Arm Surgery

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been discharged from the hospital and is now focused on rehabilitation following successful surgery on his fractured right forearm, with both Galatasaray and Nigerian fans hopeful for an early return, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 27-year-old underwent the procedure last Tuesday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul. Club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce led the surgical team, completing the operation in approximately three hours. The injury occurred during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool at Anfield, when Osimhen collided mid-air with defender Ibrahima Konaté, yet impressively played until halftime before being substituted.
While initial plans indicated a standard discharge the day after surgery, Osimhen requested to remain under closer supervision. According to Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli, the striker told club officials: “I don’t want to be discharged; I want my care to continue here so I can return sooner.” Restricted access, including for family members, ensured maximum focus on his recovery.
Early assessments suggested a six-to-eight-week absence. However, updated reports indicate that Osimhen could be back in four to six weeks, raising the possibility of featuring sooner than anticipated. The Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26 is the primary target for his return, with the club planning to use a protective splint on his forearm. Galatasaray officials have stressed that his comeback will be carefully managed to avoid setbacks.
Osimhen’s absence has been keenly felt. Before the injury, he had scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, including impressive displays in European fixtures. Konaté has reportedly reached out to apologise for the collision that caused the injury, reflecting the mutual respect between the players.
The striker’s return is significant not only for Galatasaray’s title ambitions, they currently lead the Super Lig with 64 points, four ahead of Fenerbahçe, but also for the Super Eagles as they look ahead to international fixtures later this year.
PUNCH Sports Extra notes that fans and analysts alike are optimistic, given Osimhen’s work ethic and determination to regain fitness rapidly.
