Osun APC Criticize PDP Over Alleged Plot to Block Local Government Funding

PRESS RELEASE

May 15, 2025

Osun PDP’s Alleged Move to Secure Court Injunction Against Local Governments is Undemocratic and Harmful

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received credible intelligence indicating a concerning plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to exploit judicial channels in a bid to further disrupt the functioning of local government councils in the state.

According to information available to us, in case number FHC/OS/CS/94/2025, the Osun State Attorney-General is seeking an interim injunction from the Federal High Court in Osogbo to block the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing funds to local governments in the state.

We view this move as a deliberate attempt to paralyze grassroots governance and cause further hardship for residents. Such politically motivated legal actions risk escalating tensions and undermining democratic principles at the local level.

The APC firmly believes that partisan politics must not come at the expense of the welfare of the people. We urge the Osun State Government to reconsider any steps that would exacerbate the suffering of citizens, especially as the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) continues to boycott duties, worsening the situation in the councils.

Instead of resorting to executive overreach and questionable legal tactics, we encourage the PDP-led administration to pursue lawful and transparent channels—specifically, to seek recourse at the Supreme Court regarding the Court of Appeal’s ruling that reinstated APC-elected local government officials from the 2022 elections.

The rule of law must be upheld, and any attempts to undermine it through force or political manipulation are deeply troubling. We remain confident in the judiciary’s integrity and its commitment to justice, undeterred by external pressure or threats.

Signed,

Mogaji Kola Olabisi

Director of Media and Information, Osun State APC
