Osun APC Slams NLC Chairman Arapasopo Over Open Partisanship, Calls Him a Disgrace to Labour Movement

PRESS STATEMENT. (8TH JANUARY, 2026)

Your Partisanship Role Is Bizarre, An Incurable Burden To Labour Movement – Osun APC Carpets Osun NLC Chair Arapasopo

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, the Osun State chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), as a perfect example of how not to be a labour leader in a democratic dispensation.

The show of shame embarked upon by the highly partisan Osun State NLC chairman during the interdenominational service of Governor Ademola Adeleke with the state civil servants when the supposed number one labour leader in the state turned himself to the campaign manager of the governor was a testimony to the fact that he has not only sold out to the incumbent governor but he is a gross misfit for such an exalted position of a labour leader in a complex state like the State of the Virtuous.

Though it is the inalienable right of any labour leader to personally identify with a political party of his choice but it stood logic on the head when Arapasopo was shamelessly and openly vowing for the collective votes of the workforce in the state in favour of the governor on the occasion which has now become his stock in trade since the beginning of the life span of the inglorious and fast-fading Adeleke’s administration.

The reason that could be adduced to this anomaly in the labour circle in the state is either the think thank of the NLC chief are not up and doing in their onerous task of advising Arapasopo qualitatively on his expected roles as a labour leader or he decided on his own volition to be an incorrigible entity for an exchange for the personal goodies he has been benefitting from the embattled administration of Governor Adeleke.

It is disheartening and disgusting to observe that a labour leader who is expected to maintain a political neutrality could dangerously stake his credibility by openly campaigning against the opposition APC in the state which could be described as the highest level of the demonstration of lack of tact and diplomacy in the leadership of labour in the state.

Since Arapasopo has tied the philosophical grains of corn round his waist, he must be ready to be the playmate of fowls as it would not be proper to accord him with the status of a credible labour leader but a fierce political opponent who is ardent in playing opposition politics even more than Governor Adeleke himself.

It is our observation that perhaps because of the partisanship nature of Arapasopo, it would not be an overstatement to rate him the worst NLC chairman in the history of the 35-year-old state who avoidably aided and abetted the abandonment of work by the factional members of the state NULGE for eleven months, adjudged to be first of its kind in Nigeria.

We write history everyday unconsciously and experience over the years has shown that history is about the most important of all subjects. Whoever is not fair to history as it is being experienced in the Arapasopo official capacity would, sooner than later, be consigned into the dustbin of history due to verifiably inglorious roles.

Why is it, for God’s sake, pretty difficult for Arapasopo to remove his shirt and tie as a civil servant and join the league of the men in flowing Agbada scouting for votes instead of indecently hiding under the refuge of the labour union for the purpose of feathering his nest under the guise that he is working for the common interest of the labour union in Osun State?

It would have profited the number one Osun Labour entity to engage in a wide consultation with the genuine comrades who had successfully piloted the affairs of the labour in the past without necessarily selling out to the government of the day.

It is after Arapasopo must have left the office as a labour leader that he would realise the enormity of the glaring leadership missteps that he has involved himself in which has been the offshoot of his dwindling popularity as a labour leader who is worth his salt.

No matter the worth of the attraction, it is absolutely wrong for a labour leader under whatever guise, as Arapasopo is flagrantly exhibiting, to have abandoned his statutory primary duties and shamelessly turned himself into a campaign manager of a governor with impunity.

It should constantly resonate in the subconscious of the openly pliable Arapasopo that the 1,500 teachers, thousands of health workers, 20,000 O’YES cadets, thousands of O’Meal ad-hoc staff employed by the predecessor of Governor Adeleke, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, who were unjustifiably sacked by the incumbent governor through the obnoxious and repugnant Executive Order, would anxiously be awaiting a right time to take their own pound of flesh. Their numerous family members too would not stand akimbo watching the tormentor of the destiny of their children and wards.

It is also worthy to also recall that the civil servants whether retired or serving who are the parents, uncles, cousins, relations of the 32,000 applicant-teachers who were swindled by the administration of Governor Adeleke through purchase of employment forms under the guise of conducting an interview for them for over two years without luck would not find Governor Adeleke worthy of being entrusted with the future of their unemployed children and wards.

What manner of a government would prioritise construction of flyovers and rehabilitation of merely painted roads over improvement of education in all its facets in the state as it is disheartening and unheard of that Governor Adeleke has not found it necessary to employ a single teacher be it in primary, secondary or tertiary institution for over three years it has been in the office. The casualties in this regard are earnestly waiting for the auspicious time to strike and prove to the embattled Governor Adeleke that his best is not desirable for the forward-looking and good people of the state.

The families of the monarchs who were vindictively deposed by Governor Adeleke at the inception of his administration through an Executive Order are still very much alive and are found across the state are eagerly waiting to vote out the satellite governor who is a stranger in his own administration as governance by proxy through his siblings has been the order of the day under the incumbent administration in Osun State since over three years ago.

Arapasopo should stop spewing nonsense under the guise of speaking for the entire workers in the state as his attraction for his actions and inactions are patently known to the discerning members of the society that he is not only self-serving but an opportunist who has been using the leadership of labour in the state for obvious reasons which are not in the overall interest of the highest percentage of the NLC in the state.
