OSUN APC SLAMS WALE EGBEDUN-LED ASSEMBLY OVER LG ACCOUNT CONTROL BILL, SAYS IT UNDERMINES SUPREME COURT AUTONOMY RULING

PRESS STATEMENT. (24TH FEBRUARY, 2026).
OSUN APC SLAMS WALE EGBEDUN-LED ASSEMBLY OVER LG ACCOUNT CONTROL BILL, SAYS IT UNDERMINES SUPREME COURT AUTONOMY RULING
– Osun APC Knocks State Lawmakers
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC has pointedly told the Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun-led State House of Assembly to desist from finding ways through the backdoor to undermine or frustrate the judgement of the Supreme Court that unconditionally granted autonomy to the local government administration in the country which Osun State is one of them.
It is annoying that the pliable Assembly under the leadership of Egbedun has been finding all manner of tricks to frustrate the autonomy granted the local government councils in Osun State by the Supreme Court through the originating of some obnoxious and repugnant laws that are not in any way enforceable.
The purpose of any law is to be capable of enforceability, otherwise, such a law will remain within the realm of a time-wasting venture by its makers if it remains redundant in the books of law of where it originates from.
It would be recalled that it was reported on Monday that the state Assembly passed a bill seeking to tighten its control over bank accounts of the local governments in the state into law.
Further justifying the need for the passage of the bill, the parliament, through the state local government amendment Number 2 Bill 2026, is seeking to implement more rigid rules and oversight to prevent errors and it was passed into law after presentation of the report by the chairman of the committee on public Account, Hon. Bamidele Rasheed, who represents Osogbo State Constituency.
The timing of the passage of the bill is suspect and it cannot be in the interest of the proper administration of the local government councils in the state based on the past several efforts of the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to frustrate the judgement of the Supreme Court that granted unconditional autonomy to the local government councils in all ramifications.
The Osun State House of Assembly would command more respect if by its actions and inactions it can, for once, exhibit, a glaring trait of being independent of the state executive by waking up from its perpetual slumber and refusing to be an appendage of the Adeleke government.
The passage of such an obnoxious Bill by the rubber stamp Osun State House of Assembly by this time in the political history of the state is an indication that the lawmaking house has been swimming against the tide.
All the reasons advanced by the pliable state House of Assembly for passing the Bill can neither sit nor fly as it is a glaring attempt to secure for Adeleke the illegal control of the local government administration in the state which the Supreme Court has given its judgement against.
Enough of this shenanigans of Governor Adeleke over the local government control and it would prosper the number one state executive to learn how to always respect the rule of law in his official engagements.
It is apposite for those who are thinking for the governor to unequivocally tell him that he has lost this battle over the control of the local government administration as the Supreme Court judgement is not impeachable by any means, at least, in this country.
Our golden appeal to Governor Adeleke is to learn how to work with the reinstated APC chairmen and councillors in the remaining part of his administration that statutorily terminates in November 2026.
