Osun PDP Crisis Deepens as Party Group Appeals to Wike for Urgent Intervention

A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, known as the Reset Group of Osun PDP, has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s national caretaker leadership to urgently step in and address what it described as a growing leadership crisis threatening the party’s survival in the state.
The appeal was contained in a formal letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, and copied to Wike. The letter was signed by the group’s President, Akinwale Oyetunde, and Secretary, Adeyeye Olugbenga.
According to reports cited by The Punch, the group accused the current state leadership of the party, led by Sunday Bisi, of actions that allegedly undermine the PDP’s structure and push loyal members toward alternative political platforms.
The group claimed that internal tensions worsened following the participation of the Osun PDP executives in a party convention held in Ibadan, which was later nullified by the Court of Appeal.
According to the Reset Group, the situation escalated further when members of the State Working Committee reportedly declared support for Ademola Adeleke, who is said to be contesting under the platform of the Accord Party in the forthcoming August 15 election. The group alleged that this endorsement was made without the approval of the party’s National Working Committee.
“The leadership of the party in the state has openly aligned with another political platform and directed members to register there,” the letter reportedly stated, warning that such actions could severely weaken the PDP’s political standing in Osun.
The group argued that if the current situation is not addressed, the party risks losing relevance ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
To resolve the crisis, the Reset Group called for the dissolution of the current State Working Committee and the immediate establishment of a caretaker leadership that would oversee the party’s affairs and allow aspirants to compete fairly for elective positions.
Meanwhile, political developments within the party have already triggered competing claims to leadership in the Osun PDP chapter. According to The Guardian Nigeria, uncertainty has continued to grow as different factions position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Earlier, the PDP’s national leadership believed to be aligned with Seyi Makinde announced the dissolution of the Osun State Working Committee led by Bisi and appointed a caretaker committee headed by Tunde Tijani.
However, the dissolved executives rejected the decision, insisting that the state structure remains legitimate and cannot be invalidated through what they described as external interference.
In a statement referenced by The Nation, the faction urged party members to remain calm and focused despite the ongoing leadership dispute.
Observers say the unfolding crisis reflects deeper divisions within the PDP in Osun State, raising concerns about the party’s unity and electoral preparedness in the coming years.
