Osun Reports Two Confirmed Cases of Monkeypox

On Monday, the Osun State Government announced that two cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in the Ilesa West Local Government Area.
The affected individuals, both male, are aged five and 25. They are receiving treatment at the State Hospital in Ilesa West.
State Health Commissioner Mr. Jola Akinola reassured residents not to be alarmed, emphasizing that the government is effectively handling the situation. During a meeting of the Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in Osogbo, Akinola highlighted the state’s readiness to address the outbreak.
“We managed COVID-19 effectively and prevented a cholera outbreak. With these two confirmed monkeypox cases, we have activated the EOC, and we will hold meetings every Monday to strategize on controlling the virus,” Akinola stated. “There is no reason to panic. Our team is well-prepared, and we are committed to preventing the spread of monkeypox as we did with cholera.”
Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, praised the support from various partners and reaffirmed the governor’s dedication to maintaining the state’s proactive approach.
