Over 130 Security Personnel Killed in Katsina by Armed Bandits

The Katsina State government has confirmed the loss of more than 130 security personnel to armed bandits in recent operations across the state.

Nasir Muazu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, revealed the toll in a press briefing on Monday. According to him, over 100 operatives of the Katsina Community Watch Corps — a local security initiative — have been killed. Additionally, more than 30 police officers and an undisclosed number of soldiers have also died in the line of duty.

“These brave individuals laid down their lives to protect our communities,” Muazu said. “They should be honored, not ridiculed on social media. Their commitment demonstrates the serious efforts being made by both the government and the broader security apparatus.”

Muazu emphasized that the state government continues to provide assistance to victims, rescued individuals, and the families of fallen officers through the office of the Special Adviser on Banditry and Internal Security.

He also reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of security forces through consistent investment in equipment, training, and support.

“However, lasting progress in this battle requires collective responsibility,” he said. “Citizens must support the security effort — stay calm, avoid spreading rumors, and report any suspicious activity.”

Muazu noted that many of the attacks take place in dense forest areas, where response efforts are more complex and require coordinated intelligence and local knowledge. This, he said, was one of the key reasons for establishing the Community Watch Corps — to operate effectively in such difficult environments.

The commissioner criticized the spread of misinformation online, warning that it undermines public trust and ignores the substantial gains already made under Governor Dikko Radda’s leadership.
