Owaloko Champions Unity and Peace as Iloko Ijesa Hosts Methodist Synod
His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Akeem Olusayo King Benjamin Ogungbangbe, Ajagbusi Ekun VI, the Owaloko of Iloko Ijesa, graciously welcomed delegates today at the 13th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ijesa North. The significant religious gathering took place in Iloko Ijesa and attracted clergy, dignitaries, and worshippers from across the region.
In his opening remarks, Oba Ogungbangbe expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Bishops, Lay President, Reverends, and congregants for choosing Iloko Ijesa as the venue. He emphasized the town’s cultural and historical relevance, noting the honor of hosting such a spiritually uplifting event.
The Owaloko recognized the representative of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Dr. Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the paramount ruler of Ijesa land. In particular, he acknowledged the presence of HRM Oba Engr. Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, Elegboro of Ijebu Ijesa, and the Onilaje of Ilaje Ijesa. He commended their unwavering leadership and their efforts in fostering unity across Ijesa communities.
Giving thanks to God for the gift of life and tranquility, Oba Ogungbangbe described Iloko Ijesa as a town where peace naturally thrives. “Anyone who has stayed here even briefly can testify to the calmness that defines this place,” he said. He offered prayers that this peace would remain a lasting blessing for all who dwell in or visit the community.
He also stressed the fundamental role of peace in national development, stating that meaningful progress is only possible in a peaceful environment. Encouraging unity across Nigeria, he prayed for continued harmony throughout the nation.
Addressing interfaith relations, the Owaloko praised the spirit of religious harmony in Iloko Ijesa. He explained that residents live without religious discrimination, whether Muslim or Christian, and underscored that faith is a personal relationship with God, not just a matter of buildings or symbols. “True religion lives in the heart — beyond walls or labels,” he remarked.
Oba Ogungbangbe’s reflections left a strong impression on attendees, reinforcing his role not only as a traditional ruler but also as a promoter of peace, interfaith understanding, and social cohesion. His words served as a reminder of the critical role that traditional institutions can play in fostering unity and positive change.
