Passengers Injured as Commercial Bus Flips on Third Mainland Bridge

Several people were injured on Monday, July 7, following a serious traffic accident on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge involving a commercial bus, popularly known as a Danfo, and a Toyota Camry.
The incident occurred near Adekunle Junction, en route to Lagos Island, according to a statement from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). The collision caused the Danfo to overturn multiple times, resulting in injuries and panic among passengers and passersby.
Quick Response from Emergency Teams
Officers from the RRS, including patrol teams and motorcycle units, were quick to arrive at the scene, where they provided first aid and helped evacuate injured passengers. Police officers from the Adekunle Division also assisted in managing the situation and directing traffic.
“The commercial bus somersaulted several times after a collision with a Toyota Camry. Our officers, alongside police from Adekunle Division, are on ground providing medical aid and controlling traffic,” the RRS confirmed.
Number of Injured Still Unknown
Though the exact number of injured passengers has not been confirmed, eyewitnesses say several people suffered various degrees of injuries. Some of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Traffic Disruptions and Safety Advisory
The accident caused a major traffic build-up on the bridge, prompting authorities to advise motorists to drive with extra caution. Efforts are underway to clear the wreckage and ease congestion.
Investigation Underway
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest speeding and dangerous lane changes may have played a role.
