Peter Obi Rejects Honor After ₦20 Million Donation to Shanahan College, Issues Strong Statement on Selfless Giving

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has respectfully declined an offer from Shanahan College of Nursing Sciences, Nsukka, to name a hall in his honor following his generous ₦20 million donation for the school’s infrastructure development.

The request was made by Reverend Father Kelvin Caesar, the institution’s manager, after Obi presented the donation. Father Caesar, while announcing the donation to the gathered audience, revealed plans to name the newly constructed hall after Obi as a gesture of gratitude for his support.

However, Obi swiftly rejected the proposal, emphasizing that his philanthropic actions are not motivated by personal recognition. He explained, “I contribute to causes to serve humanity, not for self-glorification. The blessings we receive are meant to uplift others, not to further our own names.”

Obi went on to share that he has donated to over 50 institutions nationwide, and it would be inappropriate to have every one of them named after him. His efforts, he said, are driven by a commitment to improving education, healthcare, and fighting poverty for the benefit of future generations.

“I am here to make a difference for the Nigerian children who will inherit this country,” Obi added. “And I promise to return to this school for more contributions in the future.”
