Pharmacy Operator Accused of R@ping 9-Year-Old Girl to Death in Kano
A pharmacy operator, whose name has not been disclosed, is accused of raping a 9-year-old girl, Rumaisa Sadiq, leading to her death in the Jaba Fanisau area of Kano State, according to News360 Nigeria.
Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred when Rumaisa was taken to the pharmacy by her father for malaria treatment.
Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Disabled and Children, Hajia Aisha Saji, condemned the act in a statement released by her Director of Public Enlightenment, Aishatu Haruna. During a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, Hajia Saji expressed her commitment to pursuing justice for Rumaisa and ensuring that the case is resolved thoroughly.
Hajia Saji emphasized that despite attempts by some to interfere with the case, the Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, is dedicated to achieving justice for Rumaisa. This is intended to deter similar crimes in the future.
The statement read, “Despite attempts by some to divert attention from the case of the fatal rape of nine-year-old Rumaisa Sadiq, Commissioner Hajia Aisha Lawan Saji Rano has affirmed that justice will be served. She stated that the swift and complete administration of justice is essential to prevent similar acts and to serve as a lesson to others.”
The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, will ensure the case is pursued to its conclusion. The Commissioner also extended condolences and support to the family, providing a bag of 50kg rice, a bag of maize, a carton of macaroni, and a gallon of vegetable oil.
Hajiya Nafisa Salisu Ahmad, Founder of Hidaya Ahmad VVF Aid Foundation, who alerted the Commissioner to the case, noted that it is receiving attention from various human rights organizations. She praised the efforts of Governor Yusuf and Commissioner Saji in fighting injustice.
The victim’s father, Alhaji Sadiq, expressed his gratitude for the support and efforts of the authorities and prayed for their continued strength. The grieving mother, still in shock, thanked both Governor Yusuf and Commissioner Saji for their support and assurance of justice.
