The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended 21 individuals suspected of being involved in recent killings and other crimes in the state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), four people, including a commercial motorcycle ticket agent, were recently killed by gunmen at various locations in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
DSP Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesman, informed reporters on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti that the arrests followed a discreet investigation by the police. He stated that the suspects were detained for alleged armed robbery and cultism.
Abutu revealed that the suspects belonged to different cult groups and were involved in reprisal attacks within their confraternities. Police investigations identified one suspect as a member of the ‘Eiye Confraternity.’
Further investigations led to the arrest of several more suspects, including members of a notorious cult gang who allegedly traveled from Plateau to participate in the criminal activities.
Abutu assured that the suspects would soon be charged to court and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to prevent crime.
