Police Arrest 52 in Major Crackdown on Crime in Ughelli, Warri, and Sapele

In a significant operation on September 24, 2024, police officers from the CP-SAT unit executed a series of arrests in Ughelli, Warri, and Sapele, leading to a total of 52 apprehensions.
In Sapele, at approximately 2:00 PM, the team acted on intelligence and raided Ogorode, apprehending a 33-year-old man named Oghenetega, identified as a member of the Viking confraternity. During the search of his residence, law enforcement recovered an AK-47 rifle, a G-3 rifle, and a homemade firearm crafted from a Beretta pistol magazine. The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
The operation was prompted by reports concerning the murder of the vice youth chairman of Mosogar town and the killing of a police officer along the Warri-Sapele road. The main suspect in these cases had been on the police watch list for over three years.
On September 25, 2024, at around 2:30 AM, CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, tracked down another suspect, 29-year-old Ojoko Ijoyoto, also known as Pikolo, in Mosogar, Ethiope West LGA. A search of his residence yielded an AK-47 rifle loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. Investigations into his activities are ongoing.
Additionally, on October 5, 2024, at approximately 2:05 PM, officers arrested 32-year-old Tunde Akingbenomo at his home in Ogharaefe, Ethiope East LGA. During the search, a locally made gun was discovered. Akingbenomo then directed the officers to an unfinished building where two improvised automatic Beretta pistols were found. Ongoing investigations will determine the full extent of these suspects’ activities.
