Lagos State Police Command operatives have arrested a couple who were attempting to sell their two-year-old son to finance a trip to Canada.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos. He stated that the couple, aged 28 and 22, were apprehended on Tuesday during the attempted sale.
According to Hundeyin, the Isolo Divisional Police Officer received a tip-off around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday that the couple had visited Isolo General Hospital with the intent to sell their baby boy.
“Upon receiving the information, operatives swiftly moved to the hospital where the couple was about to finalize the sale of their child,” Hundeyin said. “The two-year-old boy has been rescued.”
During interrogation, the couple admitted that they planned to sell their son to fund the man’s travel to Canada for better opportunities. Hundeyin added that the investigation is ongoing.
