Police Arrest Two AAUA Students for Allegedly Drugging, Raping Female Colleague
Authorities in Ondo State have arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) over allegations that they drugged and raped a fellow female student. The shocking incident has stirred outrage on campus and renewed conversations about student safety and rising sexual violence in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
According to police sources, the suspects were taken into custody after the victim reported that she was lured under the guise of a casual visit, drugged, and then sexually assaulted. Preliminary findings indicated that the young woman regained consciousness hours later and immediately sought help, leading to their arrest.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the development, stating that the two students are now facing intense interrogation. He assured that the case is being handled with utmost sensitivity and professionalism, emphasizing that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Campus authorities have also expressed concern, describing the incident as deeply disturbing and unacceptable. A senior official at the institution noted that AAUA maintains a zero-tolerance stance on sexual misconduct and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
The university’s student community has remained tense since the news broke, with many calling for stronger safety measures, more awareness campaigns, and disciplinary actions to deter future incidents. Advocacy groups within the school have also urged the administration to set up additional channels for survivors to report abuse without fear of stigma.
As the investigation continues, rights activists are urging the police to conduct a thorough and transparent process while ensuring that the victim receives adequate support—medically, emotionally, and legally.
The case has once again highlighted the urgent need for Nigerian campuses to enforce stricter policies, strengthen preventive systems, and provide safe environments for
all students.
