Police Apprehend Two Suspects in Connection to Robbery at Western Delta University

The Delta State Police Command has detained two individuals suspected of being involved in robbery attacks targeting students at Western Delta University. According to the police, these suspects are part of a six-man gang responsible for multiple robberies, including attacks on churches and warehouses across the state.

Additionally, two more individuals were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen goods from the gang. Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, confirmed these arrests.

Superintendent of Police Edafe stated that after the armed robbery at Western Delta University in Oghara on June 20, 2024, Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi ordered the case to be transferred to Divisional Police Officer CSP Aliyu Shaba of the Ekpan Division for a thorough investigation. Following these directives, CSP Shaba conducted an intelligence-led operation, which led to the suspects’ capture on June 24, 2024, at around 6:30 PM. The suspects, Okoro Udochukwu (36) and Sunday Dickson (32), were apprehended at a hotel near Aziza Junction on Sapele Road.

These two suspects are allegedly part of the gang that has been terrorizing areas including Warri, Sapele, and Oghara. They are reportedly involved in breaking into churches, businesses, and warehouses while armed. Preliminary investigations revealed that on May 26, 2024, the gang allegedly robbed a warehouse in Warri, stealing 120 bags of rice, some of which they subsequently sold.

The suspects also led the police to the arrest of two alleged receivers of the stolen goods: Arinze Ezisi (44) and Titus Chinedu (47), both from Okumaga community. Items recovered include a Hisense speaker, yards of armored cable, several generators, stabilizers, air conditioners, a professional mixer, a pumping machine, sound equipment, a Yamaha piano, gas cylinders, amplifiers, guitars, LG speakers, microwaves, an OX standing fan, cushion chairs, a large mattress, and a significant amount of copper.

Edafe mentioned that the gang used two Sienna vehicles and one shuttle bus to transport the stolen items. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover their operational vehicles.
