The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the possession of a stolen Toyota Camry, which was recovered in the state.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the vehicle, registered as APP 443 CX, was reported stolen in Lagos and was found in the Ipata-Oloje area of Ilorin. The car had been missing since being taken from a parking lot in Lagos, and was discovered last Friday at a spare parts dealer’s shop in Ipata-Oloje.
Following intelligence received from a local motor parts dealer, police detectives located the vehicle and apprehended two suspects, Gabiyu Lawal (43) of Babasoja, Gambari, Ilorin, and Ademola Waheed (45) of Sango Road, Ilorin, on November 22, 2024, around 6:00 p.m.
A search of the car revealed a mobile phone number linked to the original owner, Mr. Ajibade Abel, from Badagry Road, Lagos. After contacting Mr. Abel, police confirmed that the car had been stolen from a parking lot in Lagos and the theft had been reported to the Area C Police Command in Surulere.
The suspects confessed to buying the car for the unusually low price of N400,000, with plans to sell it for N1,000,000 in Ilorin. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify additional individuals involved and uncover the full scope of the criminal operation.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Victor Olaiya, praised the public for their alertness and encouraged continued cooperation in providing timely information to help keep Kwara State safe.
