Police Initiate Investigation into Death of Notable Nigerian Crossdresser ‘Abuja Area Mama’

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced a detailed investigation into the death of a well-known crossdresser, known as ‘Abuja Area Mama.’ Reports from SaharaReporters indicate that his body was discovered in a public area of the Federal Capital Territory on the morning of Thursday, August 8, 2024.
The discovery of his body along the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway has prompted a wave of grief on social media, where fans and admirers have been expressing their sorrow and paying their respects.
Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon. According to Adeh, the body was found and identified as a man dressed in female attire with no identification. Medical personnel at Maitama District Hospital later confirmed the individual’s death.
The police report detailed that a distress call received at approximately 7:40 AM prompted a team of detectives to the scene. The initial investigation revealed no immediate identification on the deceased. The Commissioner of Police for FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has directed a comprehensive and discreet inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this death, with further updates to be provided as the investigation progresses.
This incident follows the recent release of another prominent crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, who had been serving a six-month prison sentence for defacing Nigerian currency. Bobrisky and his associates were seen celebrating his release earlier this week.
The police are actively working to uncover the details of the death and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
