Police Officer Killed and Another Injured in Anambra as Gunmen Bomb Checkpoint

The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the individuals responsible for an attack on a police checkpoint at Omata Junction, Nnewi-Oba Road, Idemili South Local Government Area, which resulted in one officer’s death and another’s serious injury.
The assault occurred around 9:20 a.m. on Friday when assailants targeted the checkpoint with explosive devices. The motive behind the attack is still unknown.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday. He reported that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam has directed an extensive search for the attackers.
Ikenga stated, “The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has launched a manhunt for those responsible for the assault on August 9, 2024, at approximately 9:20 a.m. The operation is led by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Nnewi Area Command, and efforts are underway, in collaboration with local residents, to identify and capture the perpetrators.”
During the confrontation, one police officer was killed by an explosive, while another was critically injured and is receiving medical care. The area has been secured by a police team, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
