Police Prevent Robbery Attempt, Arrest Suspect with N4.9m in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a notorious armed robber, Hassan Iliya, and seized two AK-47 rifles along with 47 rounds of live ammunition.
SP Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The police also recovered N4,986,000 from the suspect.
According to Kiyawa, Iliya and his accomplices raided a residence in Kunchi Local Government Area, assaulting the homeowner and stealing N15 million. “On August 5, 2024, at around 2:00 a.m., a resident of Yandadi Village reported that armed robbers attacked his home and stole N15 million,” the statement said.
In response to the nationwide protests, State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, instructed a team of detectives to carry out intelligence-based patrols to apprehend the suspects and retrieve their weapons.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on the same day, the team captured Iliya, 35, from Alhazawa Village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State, while he was attempting to flee on a motorcycle. A search of his location uncovered a sack with two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of ammunition, and N4,986,000.
