Police Rescue Anambra Man from Suicide Attempt Over Debt

Anambra State Police have successfully intervened to prevent a 27-year-old man from taking his own life due to financial troubles. The incident, which occurred on Friday, August 23, was detailed in a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer SP Ikenga Tochukwu.
The man, identified as Alozie John from Iselu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, but currently residing in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, reached out to the police via WhatsApp. He had ingested a poisonous substance in a desperate attempt to end his life due to a debt of 1.2 million naira owed to a livestock supplier.
Following the alert, the police quickly rescued John, provided him with medical assistance, and placed him in safe custody for further monitoring. The statement clarified: “On 23/8/2024, the Anambra Police Command rescued a young man who had tried to end his life. He was given medical aid and is now being closely monitored in safe custody.”
John, who is involved in the live chicken trade, confessed that after consuming the toxic substance, he did not experience the intended effects. His mother has been contacted to aid in his recovery, and the police are facilitating his transfer to a more suitable facility for comprehensive care.
