Police Seize 2,765 Live Cartridges in Cross River During Routine Stop

Officers from the X-Squad at the Zone 6 Police Command in Calabar have seized a large quantity of live cartridges during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Ikom/Obudu Highway in Cross River State.
The interception took place on January 29, 2025, at around 2:30 PM. The police stopped a Toyota Previa, registration number CAL 224 JM, driven by a male suspect, Bassey Samuel Bassey, from Abi Local Government Area. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities uncovered 2,765 live cartridges hidden inside.
Bassey was immediately arrested, and investigations are underway to trace the source of the ammunition and identify other individuals involved in the illegal arms trade. The police have assured the public that efforts are being made to apprehend all individuals connected to the case and curb the spread of illegal firearms in the area.
