Police Summon NLC President Over Allegations of Terrorism Financing

Joe Ajaero
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has summoned Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to address allegations involving criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, subversion, and cybercrime.
In a letter dated August 19, 2024, and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Adamu S. Mu’Azu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Ajaero was requested to appear at the IRT complex located at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, at 10 a.m. on August 20, 2024, for questioning.
The letter warned that a warrant for Ajaero’s arrest would be issued if he failed to attend the scheduled interview. The correspondence stated:
“This office is investigating allegations of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which your name has been mentioned. You are therefore required to attend an interview on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja. Please contact the Team Leader at 08035179870 for further details.
Failure to comply with this invitation will result in the issuance of a warrant of arrest.”
Attempts to reach Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, for comment were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages or calls.
This development comes amid ongoing tensions between the NLC and the police, particularly following a recent police raid on the NLC secretariat in Abuja in search of individuals alleged to be behind the #endbadgovernance protests.
