Prime Suspect in Murder of 65-Year-Old Jane Okoye Arrested After Fleeing Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Iliyasu, the main suspect in the killing of 65-year-old Jane Okoye, who was murdered in the Orile Iganmu area on April 2, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that Iliyasu was tracked down and apprehended in Ankpa, Kogi State, by detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
Investigators say Iliyasu forcefully entered Okoye’s residence and escaped with her Toyota Sienna. The victim was discovered unconscious and later died at a nearby hospital.
Following the case’s transfer to SCID for further investigation, a specialized homicide unit launched an operation using both intelligence-gathering and advanced tracking methods. Their efforts led to the suspect’s arrest and recovery of the stolen vehicle, which has been secured as part of the evidence.
Authorities stated that Iliyasu is currently in custody at SCID, Yaba, and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunde Jimoh, reassured residents that justice will prevail, adding that the suspect will face prosecution once investigations are complete. The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and justice for all
victims.
