Protest: Tension in Ido-Osun as Rain Destroys Newly Tarred Road by Governor Ademola Adeleke in One Day

Residents of Aduragbemi in Ido-Osun, Osun State, took to the streets in protest on Friday after a newly completed road crumbled just a day after it was tarred.

Carrying placards, the demonstrators marched through the damaged stretch, blaming the contractor for delivering poor-quality work. They also appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene and ensure accountability.

According to the residents, the road—which links the Trade Fair/Ido-Osun Junction to Adeleke Estate through Aduramigba—was finished on Wednesday, May 14, but was washed away by heavy rain the following day.

A social media user, Adekeye Moses, alleged that although the project was supposed to be stone-based, the contractor reportedly used laterite—a cheaper and less durable material—sparking further concerns among locals.

Calling the situation unacceptable, the community demanded an investigation by the state government and urged that the road be rebuilt to proper standards.

As of the time of reporting, neither the contractor nor the state authorities had released an official statement. However, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the contractor had been queried. He added that the Ministry of Works would be issuing a formal statement soon.

“The contractor has been queried already. The Ministry is preparing to release a statement,”Rasheed said.
