Raping: Man remanded for alleged defilement of 15-year-old girl

The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, on Tuesday, remanded a man Onyeka Mbaka in the Nigerian Correctional Centre for the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl.
Justice Rahman Oshodi made the remand order of the defendant after he was arraigned on a count of defilement preferred against him by the state government.
The prosecution counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, told the court that the defendant defiled the victim sometime in March 2023.
Okeowo said that the incident took place at 16, Moshalasi Street, in the Ilasa area of the state.
She said the defendant had sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecution prayed the court to remand the defendant to the correctional facility.
She further informed the court that the prosecution was ready for the trial and has three witnesses to prove the charge against the defendant and therefore asked the court for a trial date.
After listening to the submission of the prosecutor, Justice Oshodi ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case till March 22, 2024, for the commencement of trial.
