LAGOS – Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has received accolades for his dedication to democratic values and his efforts to preserve the people’s will amidst challenges to democracy in Rivers State.

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) publicly endorsed Fubara in a press release issued on Monday, signed by National Coordinator Comrade Israel Uwejeyan. The statement praised Governor Fubara for exemplifying justice, transparency, and accountability—key components for societal progress.

The statement highlighted, “Governor Fubara’s recent brave opposition to former governor Nyesom Wike’s autocratic tendencies is commendable. Wike’s attempts to dominate and exploit Rivers State for personal gain are unacceptable. His conduct undermines democratic principles and disrespects the collective will of the people. Such overreach and misappropriation of state resources will not be tolerated.”

The NDYC also condemned Wike’s recent inflammatory remarks threatening to incite unrest in PDP-governed states. Describing these statements as reckless and unfit for someone in a ministerial role, the group criticized Wike for his attempts to manipulate and intimidate those advocating for democratic integrity, including Governor Fubara and the PDP Governors Forum.

Commending the PDP Governors Forum for their steadfast support of Fubara, the NDYC encouraged continued solidarity against Wike’s intimidation. They urged the forum to remain resolute despite Wike’s efforts to disrupt the democratic process.

The NDYC called on President Bola Tinubu to address Wike’s provocative actions, emphasizing the need for the President to uphold national unity and prevent actions that could jeopardize democratic stability. They urged all public officials to adhere to democratic principles to maintain public trust.

The group reassured Governor Fubara of their support and encouraged him to persist in his efforts against Wike and his allies. They affirmed that Fubara has the backing of the PDP, Rivers State, and the broader Nigerian populace.

“We reaffirm our support for Governor Fubara and his commitment to democratic values, transparency, and accountability. We call on all stakeholders to support him and resist any efforts to undermine the people’s will,” Uwejeyan concluded.
