Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, has shared the reasons behind his recent N150 million donation to the Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State.

Rema, who was in Edo for the Edo@33 celebration, performed at the inauguration of the 6,000-capacity Edo Dome and at a concert at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, both events organized by the state government. On September 1, he made a significant donation to the Edo Regional Headquarters of Christ Embassy Church, located on Erediauwa Street, off Ekenwa Road.

In his donation announcement, Rema explained that the contribution was a gesture of gratitude for the church’s support during a challenging time in his childhood. During a thanksgiving service at the church, he recalled how the church had a pivotal role in his family’s life following the death of his father when he was just eight years old.

Rema shared, “I am not here to seek recognition but to honor God. I felt compelled to give back to the church that has supported and uplifted me spiritually. After my father’s death, we were left with nothing and felt utterly alone. Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas from this church helped by opening a shop for my mother, which allowed us to survive.”

He further committed N40 million to the church’s infrastructure development, N20 million to the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and N25 million to the church’s teen ministry. Additionally, he pledged N20 million to assist widows in attendance.

Rema has previously used the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the tragic murder of his father, a former PDP politician in Edo State.
