Reno Omokri: Obidients Lack the Moral Authority to Criticize Kano’s Mass Weddings

Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri has fired back at critics from the Obidient movement who have condemned Kano State’s decision to spend ₦2.5 billion on a mass wedding for marriageable couples. According to Omokri, these critics, particularly those who supported Peter Obi’s spending of over five times that amount on purchasing 400 cars for Igwes in Anambra, lack the moral ground to criticize the initiative.
In a post on social media, Omokri argued that those criticizing the mass weddings in Kano have overlooked the state’s educational achievements. He pointed out that Kano already has two state-owned universities, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology and Northwest University, in addition to several state-run polytechnics. Kano also has one of the highest numbers of students on state-funded scholarships abroad, second only to Lagos and Oyo states.
Omokri also highlighted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has made significant investments in building schools in Kano within just two years of taking office. In comparison, he questioned how many schools Peter Obi built during his eight years as governor of Anambra, stating that the answer was none.
He went on to criticize those who had no problem with spending nearly ₦1 billion on a lavish burial, yet found fault with the Kano government’s investment in a mass wedding, which he believes is a celebration of life and a better investment for the future of the next generation.
Omokri advised critics to either understand the cultural context of the North or focus on improving their own states, rather than interfering in the affairs of Kano.
