Rivers Polls: Wike Boasts, ‘I Influenced My LG, PDP Won’

Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at his critics, declaring that his political influence remains unshaken despite heated debates surrounding the recent local government elections in the state.
Speaking after the polls, Wike confidently asserted that his Local Government Area delivered victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a feat he described as evidence of his enduring political weight.
“Those who have been shouting that Wike is finished, where are they now? I influenced my local government, and PDP won convincingly,” he said.
The Rivers strongman has long been known for his fierce political style and unapologetic confidence, and his latest remarks appear to be a direct response to opponents who predicted that he had lost grip on his home base following internal wrangling in the PDP.
Political observers note that Wike’s comment is both a celebration of PDP’s performance and a strategic jab at those who doubted his relevance after he assumed office as FCT Minister under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The outcome of the polls, especially in Wike’s local government, has further fueled conversations about his continued dominance in Rivers politics, with many awaiting how his influence will play out in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.
For now, Wike seems eager to remind friend and foe alike that he remains a force to reckon with in the state’s polit
ical landscape.
