See How DSS Officers Eliminate Terrorists in Niger State Ambush

On Friday night, officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) successfully neutralized at least three notorious bandits during a coordinated ambush in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

Several other bandits, injured by gunfire, fled into nearby bushes, while the DSS operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles left behind by the retreating criminals.

Security sources revealed that the ambush was the result of weeks of diligent intelligence gathering by the DSS, including intercepting and analyzing communications among the bandits. This operation is part of a series of high-stakes missions conducted by the DSS in both the Northwest and Northeast regions, aimed at dismantling the criminal groups terrorizing local populations.

In addition to these efforts in the northern regions, the DSS has also led successful operations targeting the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast. The intelligence provided by the DSS has significantly supported military and other security agencies in neutralizing or apprehending numerous terrorists across Nigeria.

Since the appointment of Mr. Tosin Ajayi as Director-General of the DSS by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the agency has intensified its intelligence efforts, frequently sharing critical information with the military and other security forces. This cooperation has played a key role in reducing ambushes on military personnel and has been instrumental in weakening IPOB activities in the Southeast.

A military officer, who requested anonymity, praised the DSS’s contributions, stating, “The successes of the DSS have been enormous, particularly since President Tinubu appointed a highly capable leader to head the agency. While many of these successes aren’t covered in the media, it’s clear that the DSS has been a huge help to us in the military.”

As part of his broader security reforms, President Tinubu has promised to support the DSS in utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance efforts in combating insecurity across Nigeria. This pledge was made during the investiture of graduates from the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC)17 in Abuja.
