See How PDP Criticizes Fuel Price Increase, Accuses Tinubu Government of Mismanagement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the recent fuel price hike, which has reached as high as N1,000 per litre in certain areas. The party describes this increase as a “severe attack on the welfare and sensibilities of Nigerians,” blaming the “insensitive and arrogant” leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the situation.

The PDP expressed strong disapproval of the timing and execution of the price rise, calling it “careless” and potentially destabilizing. The party warned that the increase in fuel prices could worsen the already challenging economic conditions in Nigeria, potentially leading to broader unrest.

In a statement on Wednesday, National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba conveyed the party’s view that there is little hope for improvement under the current APC administration. Ologunagba criticized the secretive and corrupt handling of the petroleum sector by the Tinubu administration, suggesting that the government is pushing Nigerians to their limits.

The statement highlighted that the APC administration has shown disregard for the suffering of Nigerians, who are struggling with exorbitant living costs. The PDP pointed out that under the Tinubu-led government, over 150 million Nigerians are living in poverty, businesses are failing, and the Naira’s value has plummeted to over N1,600 per Dollar, with inflation and unemployment rates also rising.

Ologunagba noted that major multinational companies are leaving Nigeria due to poorly conceived economic policies. He criticized the APC government for allegedly prioritizing oil traders over citizens, thereby failing to fulfill its primary duty of ensuring public welfare and security.

He also expressed frustration over the continued increase in fuel prices despite revelations of a substantial N5.4 trillion fuel subsidy payment for 2024. The PDP accused the APC government of enabling a group of corrupt individuals who benefit from high fuel prices at the expense of ordinary Nigerians.

The party questioned what President Tinubu communicates to foreign leaders about Nigeria’s economic conditions and criticized the APC for ignoring the PDP’s previous constructive advice on economic management. The PDP argued that, with effective and transparent management, fuel prices should not exceed N250 per litre in Nigeria.

The PDP urged President Tinubu to address the country’s socio-economic issues by reversing the latest fuel price increase and reevaluating the APC’s policies.
