See Numbers of People Killed, As Hoodlums, Monarch’s Supporters Clash Over New Park In Lagos

A deadly clash erupted on Sunday in the Alaba Rago area of Iba, Lagos State, as a dispute between road transport workers and supporters of a local traditional ruler turned violent.
The conflict, which was reportedly sparked by the opening of a new motor park, claimed the life of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a speeding vehicle amid the chaos. The victim’s identity had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
According to community members, tensions had been brewing following the launch of the park, said to be initiated by the monarch to cater to long-distance commercial vehicles heading to northern and eastern parts of the country. Existing transport workers reportedly saw the facility as a challenge to their control over local transportation routes and revenue streams.
Witnesses said the confrontation escalated in the early hours of Sunday, with aggrieved groups clashing near the new park. In the midst of the unrest, a passerby attempting to cross the road was hit by a vehicle and died instantly.
Disturbing videos shared on social media captured the aftermath, with residents gathering at the scene. In one clip, a wrapper was used to cover the victim’s body as people looked on in shock.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement had been deployed to restore order. Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that the Commissioner of Police visited the area personally for an assessment and later met with stakeholders at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
Hundeyin added that discussions were ongoing to resolve the dispute and ensure the situation does not escalate further.
