See Reasons Mourinho Told Me To Return The Range Rover I Bought With My First Chelsea Salary – Mikel Obi

John Mikel Obi, the former Chelsea midfielder, has opened up about his close relationship with renowned Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho. The 37-year-old has often highlighted the profound impact Mourinho had on both his professional and personal life.
In a recent episode of his Obi One podcast, Mikel spoke about how ‘The Special One’ shaped his career, not just on the field but off it as well.
Mikel revealed that Mourinho frequently checked in on how he was managing his finances. “He would always ask, ‘What did you do with your salary? Did you save it? Did you buy a house?'” Mikel shared. “He was always concerned about how I was handling things, and he made sure I stayed grounded, humble, and respectful.”
The former Super Eagles star also recalled a moment when Mourinho advised him to return the Range Rover he had purchased with his first paycheck from Chelsea. “I remember buying a Range Rover after I got my first salary,” Mikel said. “Mourinho saw it and told me to take it back, suggesting I get a smaller car instead.”
Mikel Obi joined Chelsea in 2006 when Mourinho was the manager, and under his guidance, Mikel enjoyed an impressive 11-season stint at the club, winning numerous titles including two Premier League trophies, four FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League, and the Europa League.
