See the Number of People Dead in Tragic Crash at Plateau Checkpoint

A devastating accident occurred on Monday night at a checkpoint in Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of 19 individuals. The incident took place in the Hawan Kibo community, located in the Riyom Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the vehicle, which was en route from Adamawa State to Abuja, lost control while approaching the checkpoint. Eyewitness Christopher Maju described the harrowing scene: “It was nighttime, and several vehicles were halted at the checkpoint by soldiers conducting inspections. Suddenly, we saw a bus speeding toward us, with passengers shouting, ‘No brake, no brake!’”
In a desperate attempt to avoid colliding with the line of waiting vehicles, the bus veered off the road and struck a stationary truck, leading to immediate fatalities. Eighteen people died at the scene, while one person who was critically injured passed away en route to the hospital.
Peter Yakubu, spokesman for the Federal Roads Safety Corps in Plateau State, confirmed the tragic outcome, attributing the accident to brake failure. “There were no survivors. Eighteen died at the site, and one later succumbed in the hospital. It’s a tragic incident caused by mechanical failure,” he stated.
The Hawan Kibo area has been notorious for frequent accidents due to the deteriorating state of the road, prompting community members to urge the government to take action and repair the Jos-Abuja Highway to prevent further loss of life.
