See the Numbers of Lives of Farmers Fresh Bomb Blast Claims in Borno
Two farmers lost their lives when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated at Mile 40 along the Maiduguri-Monguno Road in Borno State on Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that the explosion occurred around 9:10 am on June 30, when the farmers accidentally stepped on the planted IED.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, shared the news on his social media account. He highlighted that the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has increasingly turned to IEDs, which reflects their weakened state.
Makama explained that ISWAP’s use of IEDs is a sign of desperation, indicating their diminished manpower and firepower. “The use of IEDs is often a tactic of desperation, employed by ISWAP, because they lack the manpower or firepower to achieve their objectives through conventional means,” he said.
He further added that ISWAP has shifted from attacking military bases and towns to adopting defensive strategies to prevent troop incursions into their territories.
