By Uchenna Ugwu

The Ebonyi Police Command has apprehended four individuals in relation to the alleged kidnapping and murder of Magnus Okeke, a student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University (AE-FUNAI) in Ikwo Local Government Area.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abakaliki. He stated, “We have initiated an investigation into the incident, and four individuals have been detained concerning this heinous crime. The victim’s body has been recovered and taken to the mortuary. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.”

The university’s management, through a statement by Public Relations Officer Mr. Elom Iyke Ubochi, condemned the abduction and killing of Okeke, labeling it as cruel. Ubochi detailed that Okeke, a final-year student in the Department of Accountancy, was kidnapped on June 1, 2024. Despite efforts by security agencies to rescue him alive, his decomposing body was discovered on Monday, June 17, beneath a bridge at Ako stream in Nwakpu village, along the Ikwo/Abakaliki Road.

The university has called on anyone with pertinent information to assist the authorities in their investigation.
