See the Numbers of suspects NSCDC Arrests for Illegal Bunkering, Vows to Intensify Crackdown on Saboteurs
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has arrested two individuals, Lucky Emmanuel (22) and Oluchi Dike (26), for their involvement in illegal petroleum activities, in a concerted effort to combat economic sabotage in the region.
The suspects were apprehended in a raid at Isiala Ihie, Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, where the NSCDC Crack Squad uncovered an illicit refinery concealed in a forest. The operation revealed significant quantities of crude oil believed to have been siphoned from a nearby damaged pipeline.
Prince Akinsola Aderemi, the Abia NSCDC Commandant, explained that the arrests are part of a nationwide crackdown against illegal bunkering, as directed by the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi. During the raid, the authorities seized various quantities of petroleum products in different stages of processing, highlighting the scale of the economic sabotage orchestrated by these criminals.
Aderemi confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with plans to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal operation. He stressed that such activities pose a serious threat to both the nation’s economy and the environment, and vowed to continue targeting and eliminating those responsible.
The NSCDC Commandant further issued a stern warning to individuals still participating in illegal bunkering, urging them to cease their activities or face the full consequences of the law. “The Abia Command remains committed to safeguarding the state and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens,” he added.
Aderemi also called for greater public cooperation, urging citizens to provide reliable information that could help the NSCDC in apprehending criminal elements. “Collaboration with the public is essential to addressing these issues and ensuring the safety of our communities,” he said.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, assuring the residents of Abia State of its continued dedication to maintaining law and order.
