See The Total Numbers of Terrorists Troops killed and captured within a week—DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS
The Defence Headquarters announced that within the past week, troops deployed across various regions of the country have neutralised 197 terrorists and apprehended 310 others.
This information was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday regarding the operations of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Maj.-Gen. Buba reported that the troops also rescued 251 kidnapped hostages and recovered 180 assorted weapons and 5,123 rounds of ammunition. The recovered arsenal included two PKT guns, 73 AK47 rifles, 17 locally fabricated guns, 3,207 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,022 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 243 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo, among others.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 83 terrorists, arrested 71 suspects, and rescued 48 kidnapped hostages. They also recovered two PKT guns, 35 AK47 rifles, nine fabricated rifles, ten dane guns, and ten grenades.
In the North Central region, troops of Operation Safe Haven neutralised 11 insurgents, apprehended 64 violent extremists, and rescued 21 kidnapped hostages, seizing several caches of arms. Additionally, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke neutralised six terrorists, detained 20 violent extremists, and rescued 36 kidnapped hostages, recovering two AK47 rifles, 66 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and six cartridges.
In the North West, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji eliminated 65 terrorists, captured 80, and rescued 54 kidnapped hostages. They recovered 29 AK47 rifles, seven fabricated rifles, four dane guns, and 991 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo. Meanwhile, troops of Operation Whirl Punch neutralised 19 terrorists, arrested 18 suspects, and rescued 23 kidnapped hostages, recovering three AK47 rifles and 119 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo.
Maj.-Gen. Buba highlighted the severe security situation in Zamfara, calling for a collaborative approach between the state government and local residents to address the crisis. He noted that both the governor and the Commissioner of Police have described Zamfara as the epicenter of kidnapping, likening it to a thriving industry in the state.
“The military is actively engaged in the region, aiming to eliminate the terrorists and restore peace. In this month alone, up to yesterday, we have lost nine personnel, demonstrating our commitment to securing the land and creating a safe environment for the people,” Maj.-Gen. Buba stated.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of public support in the fight against terrorism, particularly in Zamfara, due to the involvement of influential individuals in the kidnapping operations.
