Shock as Police Officers Allegedly Kidnap and Extort ₦151 Million from Foreign-Based Nigerian

A serious allegation involving four police inspectors has come to light through a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The petition, dated May 2, 2025, details how a foreign-based Nigerian, Mr. Segun Okubajo, was allegedly abducted and extorted by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The legal complaint, filed by prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Oke, on behalf of Segun’s father, Mr. Kehinde Okubajo, claims the victim was unlawfully detained and stripped of ₦151.5 million under coercion. The accused officers—AP Mohammed Yusuf (No. 229655), AP Ojochenemi Jubrin (No. 227141), AP Rizama Reuben (No. 318195), and AP Isokpuwu John (No. 318172)—allegedly carried out the abduction in Lagos before transferring Segun to Abuja.

According to the petition, Segun was taken on October 9, 2024, with no prior charges or complaints against him. He was allegedly seized by armed officers, who disabled surveillance systems, confiscated his phones, and held him without communication. He was reportedly transported in chains to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.

The petition also links the incident to two alleged police informants, Oladipo Ibrahim and Shedrach Luka, who are accused of orchestrating false claims against foreign-based Nigerians to enable extortion with the help of corrupt officers. Segun’s family claims the informants targeted him during a visit to Nigeria.

Initially, the officers allegedly demanded ₦1 billion from Segun’s family, later reducing the demand to ₦151.5 million—an amount the family says was raised through loans, business funds, and support from friends and cooperative groups.

After the payment was made, Segun reportedly fled back abroad and has since faced ongoing threats directed at him and his family, warning them not to pursue justice or go public with the case.

The petition alleges that part of the extorted funds may have been shared with a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi. Despite earlier complaints filed in November 2024, the threats allegedly continued, prompting the current petition demanding urgent action.

The petition requests that the Inspector-General immediately initiate a full investigation into the matter, ensure the refund of the extorted sum, take disciplinary actions against the involved officers, and implement protective measures for the victim and his family.

Failure to act within 14 days, the lawyers warned, would force them to escalate the case to local and international media, initiate legal proceedings against multiple government agencies, and possibly involve global human rights bodies.

Accompanied by documented evidence—including videos and photographs—the petition calls on IGP Egbetokun to uphold accountability within the Force and ensure justice is served.
