Sokoto State Government Rescues Over 250 Captives from Bandits
In a significant move to combat insecurity and uphold his administration’s promise to enhance state security, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s government has successfully rescued over 250 individuals from bandits.
During the administration’s first year, the state established a community guard corps to address insecurity in thirteen vulnerable areas, providing additional support to conventional security forces.
Speaking at the NUJ press centre on Friday, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), the governor’s special adviser on security matters, highlighted these achievements as part of the governor’s first-year anniversary activities. He noted that the state government had supplied forty Toyota Hilux Jeeps to the newly formed community guard corps to ensure their operational effectiveness.
Additionally, the state plans to distribute 1,000 motorcycles to these community guards, enhancing their mobility and response capabilities.
Other notable achievements in the past year include the procurement and distribution of 72 vehicles, such as Toyota Hilux and Buffalo models, to various security agencies. This logistical support has been instrumental in the rescue operations that freed over 250 captives from bandit captivity, allowing them to return safely to their communities.
The administration has also cracked down on areas plagued by illicit drug activities and other crimes, with aerial surveillance support from the Nigerian Air Force enhancing these efforts.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has implemented only a fraction of its security agenda but remains committed to advancing the state’s development and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
