– Osun APC Tells Governor To Accept Responsibility For Failure

Following the widespread furore attracted by the failure of structural and integrity tests of the recently commissioned N20 billion Lameco Junction Flyover in Osogbo, the state capital, poorly constructed by the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, which resulted in its cracking at a spot, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused the governor of being unnecessarily hasty in his accusation of the opposition as being responsible for the lapses on the failed infrastructure.

Our thinking that the past three years that the governor has been in the office as the chief executive of the state would have been sufficient for him to learn on the job is nothing to write home about.

The immediate approach to the ill-constructed flyover of the visibly confused outgoing Osun State governor is indicative of the fact that he is a gross misnomer for such exalted state governorship office as it was frivolous, undeserving and crude for a state governor to hastily arrive at a conclusion on those responsible for the failure of the newly-constructed and commissioned flyover.

In order to further prove his incompetence as the state governor who has visibly been shirking in his statutory responsibility of the safety of lives and property of the inhabitants of the state, it was indeed disheartening that the confused governor could also open his mouth wide enough to unjustifiably accuse the APC members of shooting at the equally substandard and poorly constructed flyover at Lagere, Ile-Ife.

We want to tell the governor that his tale-by-the-moonlight concerning the poorly constructed flyovers that is now attracting both national and international attention for a wrong reason has refused to dazzle any right-thinking members of the society.

We wonder what the governor and his co-travellers have expected to reap when it was pungent clear that the flyover contracts were awarded to quacks as opposed to the ubiquitous qualified civil engineers who are indigenes of the state and are known to be making waves in other riverine states, constructing monumental flyovers without an iota of complaint.

The governor who is now in a mess over the failure of his projects would not have anything to do with the abundant qualified, gifted local contractors because of the money he would make on the projects.

It is too late in the day for Governor Adeleke and his ilk to cry over the situation they are finding themselves as the proverbial ‘Omoye’ has carried her trait of madness to the market place. The whirlwind has blown which has exposed the anus of the fowl.

The lies being packaged by the governor and his cohorts as the APC being responsible for the failure of his projects are not necessary as such would not sink in the subconscious of any discerning minds who have been watching the unserious posture of the dancing, wining, clubbing and lying governor since the inception of his administration.

It is absurd and misplaced for Governor Adeleke to mischievously hang his failure on the APC members moreso when there is no iota of proof linking them to such crime. It is arrant nonsense for the governor to be hiding under constitutional executive power to be frivolously accusing the APC members of pouring chemical on the failed portion of the above ab initio poorly constructed Lameco Junction Flyover and the purported shooting of the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife.

Has the governor carried out any laboratory test on the damaged section of the substandard flyover to confirm that a chemical was poured on it? What kind of chemical was it, and what test was conducted to detect it? And where is the report?

Without any evidence, it is absolutely wrong for the governor to just wake up from the wrong side of his bed and start pointing accusing fingers at the APC members for his road and bridge failures.

It is apposite for a comprehensive test to be carried out by an independent engineering professional body with a view to examining whether the quack engineers who constructed the failed flyover did a competent job in the first place.

Governor Adeleke should learn how to take responsibility for his failure instead of needlessly passing the bulk to another quarters and stop playing politics with the people’s lives from now till his imminent exit from the Bola Ige House in November.

The failed flyover should be reconstructed by competent engineers, not the quack contractors that the Governor Adeleke government is using.

It is like the incumbent Governor Adeleke is only postponing the inevitable disaster associated with the bridge as it was discovered that as at 6.15am today (25th July, 2026), the obviously embattled and rattled governor Adeleke had re-opened the structurally-deficient bridge and discovered that some labourers had done what is referred to as patch and join in local civil engineering parlance.

What the governor has done as his solution to the failed flyover was to introduce concrete cement (2 bags of cement mixed with 5 bags of 3/4 granite in a 1:2:1 ratio) to repair the damaged section on a road that was originally built with coal-tar.

No sensible civil engineer repairs a road built with coal-tar with concrete cement; this is what is referred to as cut and join which is not capable of standing the test of time and it’s a recipe for engineering failure.

What Governor Adeleke ought to have done was to close down the bridge, allow NSE, COREN and other professional engineering agencies to conduct independent assessments on it and advise the government on the quality of work done and make recommendations.

It’s the report of the qualified engineering professional bodies that the state government should have the liver to force the contractor who handled the project to implement. This is the standard engineering practice on a structurally failed civil project like the controversial Lameco Junction Flyover.
