Super Eagles Appoint Augustine Eguavoen as New Coach Amid Labbadia Declines Roles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named Augustine Eguavoen as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, replacing the recently proposed German coach Bruno Labbadia.

Eguavoen, who is currently the NFF’s technical director, will lead the Super Eagles through the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. His appointment comes after Labbadia, who was announced as the coach on August 27, declined the role.

Eguavoen, who previously managed the Super Eagles in 2005-2007, 2010, and 2022, will oversee the team’s matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda. The team is set to play against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7, followed by a game against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on September 10.

Preparations for these qualifiers will begin in Uyo next Monday.
