TEACHER SHOT DEAD IN TOR-DONGA: COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF HIS EX-STUDENT

A tragic incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, 10th December, involving Mr. Simon Iorkase, a teacher at Kuwam Secondary School, Tor-Donga. Mr. Iorkase had earlier visited Abaji-Kpav before proceeding to attend a wake. While in Abaji-Kpav, he met some of his former students from Charity Secondary School, who gathered to welcome and celebrate him after a long time apart. After spending some time with them, he reportedly became tired and decided to retire for the night instead of continuing to the wake.
While heading to where he intended to sleep, Mr. Iorkase reportedly encountered one of his former students, a young woman popularly known as “Angu,” who was seated with a member of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG), locally referred to as *Mbaasomov*, identified as Mr. Ali Noryila Baka. It was gathered that Mr. Iorkase called the young woman and questioned why she did not greet him, given that she was once his student. This interaction allegedly led to a heated exchange between Mr. Iorkase and Mr. Ali Noryila Baka.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation escalated, and Mr. Ali Noryila Baka allegedly drew a firearm and shot Mr. Simon Iorkase at close range, resulting in his instant death. This heartbreaking incident has thrown the community into shock and mourning. Members of the public are now calling on the Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government and the Nigeria Police Force to urgently investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served through appropriate legal actions.
