Tension Erupts in Borno as Immigration Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself During Protest

In Bulunkutu, Maiduguri, Borno State, chaos ensued yesterday when an immigration officer accidentally discharged his weapon, injuring himself three times in the foot while managing a protest.
The sound of the gunfire initially alarmed protesters, who feared one of their own had been shot. However, they calmed down once they realized the officer had accidentally harmed himself.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, a joint security team including police, military, immigration, DSS, and Civil Defence had barricaded the Bulunkutu railway junction to prevent protesters from advancing into central Maiduguri.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was part of the team tasked with dispersing the demonstration. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but his current condition is not yet known.
The protestors were voicing their discontent with the government’s handling of the ongoing insurgency in the region and other national issues.
