Terrorists Crushed in Sokoto Forest: Nigerian Troops Foil Planned Attacks, Recover Weapons in Major Operation

Troops of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7, working alongside the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a major operational success after engaging a notorious terrorist network in Kadam Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 terrorists linked to the Lakurawa extremist group had assembled deep inside the forest to plan attacks on surrounding communities and move kidnapped victims to their hideouts.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops mobilised to intercept the group and made contact with the terrorists at about 12 noon. A fierce firefight followed as the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, but the troops maintained tactical superiority and responded with overwhelming firepower.
Subsequent exploitation of the area confirmed the neutralisation of three terrorists, while several others were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds while fleeing into the forest.
Security forces recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone. Follow-up operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more weapons.
The Force Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their professionalism and courage, noting that the success demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint operations in dismantling terrorist networks.
He added that aggressive patrols and sustained operations would continue across the area to prevent fleeing terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks on communities and transport routes.
The successful operation has strengthened confidence among residents of Tangaza and neighbouring communities, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining stability across Sokoto State.
